Introducing… Grace
An sex worker activist with three tips on how to improve sexual health services for sex workers
Tip one: Tackle stigma and discrimination
We have lot of service providers who are not trained on key population services so there are a lot of stigma that comes around with this, with either they announce your positivity, either they mishandle you during the services, either they don't address you the appropriate way that you're supposed to be addressed, so this also makes sex workers not able to access services.
Tip two: Learn about the feelings and needs of sex workers
Involving the sex workers themselves in implementation of the programme. And getting their ideas and how they want to be treated, how they want to be handled. This would really help.
Tip three: Keep client’s information confidential
Also some service providers are not confidential. So they address you the way they feel like and. They can even meet you on the street and they tell you didn't come for your refills. You're like, why is he supposed to tell me that I'm supposed to come for my refills? And this is a service provider who should be keeping your information private. So that is also a problem that comes about with the service providers.
